On the left, a shiny new Speedplay Zero cleat. On the left right (my other left), a decrepit cleat with about 5,000 miles behind it. You can’t see in this picture, but the trailing edge of the old cleat is worn to a thickness of 1/16". Thought I’d better replace them before riding Bike Virginia.
Overall I’ve been pleased with the Speedplays. Float is adjustable, and I ride with them set for very little float so I get none of the "skating on ice" feeling that some complain about. Clip in is easy, as long as I lube the cleats frequently, and once I’m in they’re very secure. Release is as simple and surefire as clipping in.
